13 April 20 garand Picture of the Day

The powerful images tell the story of the momentous Operation Plunder, which involved 200,000 men breaching the natural water barrier protecting northern Germanyicon in March 1945. Here, troops are seen crossing a floating bridge over the River Rhine, which formed a formidable natural barrier to the Allies' invasion plans

Are you certain that that is the Rhine? It is a major river and for all of its length in Germanyicon it is a lot wider than that, like around 5 times wider. There are however tributaries in the upper Rhine that are narrow.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe some small island close to the riverside at some point?

Yea, I can't think of any place on the Rhine River that short! Much be one of the smaller branches that feeds into the Rhine.

Agree, I jumped and clicked my name thanking for the photo right away, then took a closer look and realized also that it's not wide enough. Ray

I left it alone when I saw this one, just wrong info on the original pic I imagine. Most of the Rhine I picture looks like a mile across...too far to use a floating foot bridge like this one.
    Regards, Jim
