Nice resurrection of a fine old rifle. Congratulations.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. 1903 rifle

That is an excellent job in restoration. But after doing more research, i am convinced that your hand guard should have the half circular cut by the rear sight windage knob. The single slot cut was used on WW2 contract handguards.

My photo shows the circular cut on a SA hand guardAttachment 107097

That is correct. I noted in the original post it was a WWII replacement, I know from the cut also.

Early Remington 1903 handguards also had this circular cut but no fixturing slot.

Really nice restoration job. Being a Springfield, I know this is a rhetorical question, but how does it shoot?

I don't know, I sold it to a friend of mine. He is going to use it in our next Garandicon match and then we shall see.
