Did I Luck In To A Long Rifle

Just picked up this Type 99 for $300. When I was doing the data sheet I noticed that some things did not match up with what I expected from a No Series Nagoya. Broke out the tape measure on a hunch and got 50 inches from butt stock to muzzle.

The guy that sold it to me said he got it from a woman that found it in her attic after her husband died, but didn't have much other info. It did not have a firing pin or safety, so these have been replaced. Other than that all numbers appear to match. It has a fair amount of surface rust, but no major pitting. At first I was a little disappointed at the condition, but now, not so much. Besides being a possible long rifle, it cleaned up pretty well.

One other thing. The rear trigger guard screw is rusted in place. Any ideas on how to break it free?

I don't know much about these rifles, so looking for inputs.

If it's a long rifle, that automatically makes it early. S/N shows about half way through the Nagoya production. Probably Fall/Winter of 1940.

Just wish it had been kept in a better place than the attic. Surface rust has dulled the finish on a lot of it. Not to badly pitted.

Nice rifle. Use some balitsol with some stainless steel wool. on the metal it will remove all the rust but not the finish. Just make sure its stainless steel. Put some kroil on the trigger screw top side. You can also pin point heat it. That means heating a rod that is smaller that screw diameter cherry red. Hold it too screw to transfer heat then tap an try to turn. may take a while to get it done. Use the right fitting screw bit. even making one fit right.

Yes, you have a 99 long rifle, made at the Chigusa factory of the Nagoya Arsenal.

I have the same adjustable/bendable stalk light that I used to use looking into the bores until I got a bore camera.....good to see some one else has trialed and found out the stainless steel wool or a stainless pad (Non soaped) with WD 40 or RP 7 can remove surface rust from your finish without removing the finish. Congrats on a nice pick up..$300? I think you did really well!. Just wondering, is the rear trigger guard screw rusted in place or still staked? If it is still staked, I would leave it as is since that is the way it left the factory.

Got some more pics after cleaning. Probably still need to do some deep cleaning but, for now, it's in pretty good shape.
Included multiple pics of the manufacturer marks on various parts.

    Any ideas as to value?
