Well I actually bought the rifle.
I gave it a once over when it arrived, fore Stock is leaning over to the left a little, so rather than faff about with the bedding, i just tried another stock on it, this one fitted like a glove. I gave the barrel a clean and re-crown and today my son and I headed to the range.
Quick Boresight and it only took a few rounds to get on the money at 100m. Using 174gr PPU factory ammo, we soon had the rifle zeroed. Using the original scope grouping hovers between 1.5 and 2 MOA. Which to be honest, is pretty good for a 75+year old rifle that was worked over in Ishapore in 1962, it was infact better than a customers Bergara BA13 TD i zeroed with a 3x S332 Steiner yesterday.
I then swaped the bracket and scope over and fitted an old scope ive had laying around for years, a Leupold 2.5-8x32. The 8x was a vast improvement. I actualy managed several repeatable 1MOA groups with the 174gr PPU. I then tried a PPU hunting load with a 180gr and again 1 to 1.5 MOA. That is damn good.
So the stock for the rifle is worth a little work on the bedding and ive already fettled the trigger.
Not having fired an Enfield for years i am now convinced all over again that all British Empire troops had deformed hands, and that the ergonomics on my sons Tikka T3x is light years ahead.
Never the less, it was fun to shoot a No4 T again. Will i be able to resist threading the muzzle and putting a moderator on it..I suppose i'll just have to resist.
