Irwin Pedersen and Rock Ola M2 Carbines

The title might raise higher expectations than what in fact I can show. These are not complete rifles but "just" receivers. Both were restamped to M2 and therefore once must had been M2 Carbines. I back then originally bought them for the makers and considered the fact that they were restamped to M2 an interesting detail atop. In fact I might even build up two M2 Carbines based on them since this would allow me to use any parts I have at hand for the build and not painfully trying to find the correct parts.

Has anyone ever seen the serial of an IP (or any other manufacturer) re-applied in front of the rear sight? I guess this might had been a result of the rear sight partically covering the serial, or what would be the reason for this? And which barrel manufacturer should I keep my eyes open to find to make either of them at least correct matching for the receiver/barrel combination? Same applies to the bolt, are there specific numbers/codes that I need to keep my eyes open for?

I have no idea what the laws are in Europe where you are located but here in the states, what you are thinking about doing would entail a lot of money and hoops to jump through to build up an m2 legally. actually, if it's unregistered , there is no way to build up the m2 legally .as far as I know even just the receivers that have an m2 stamping, have to be registered. I noticed you have been a longtime member here and may even be an expert and may even know exactly what you are doing and I apologize if that is the case. I just felt compelled to warn you just in case you didn't know. I live in Tennessee in the states where we have extremely relaxed gun laws and we had a guy about eight or nine years back that had his confiscated right there on the range by law enforcement and all he had was an m2 marked receiver, and didn't even have any of the m2 parts in the carbine and they still confiscated it.evidently the range officer noticed what the guy had and quietly called the cops. I didn't personally know the man but people on the gun range talked about it for years. The receiver evidently was not registered and was still considered a machine gun by law even though it didn't have any of the machine gun parts in it. Again, sorry if you already know all of this, a lot of people don't.

As I had written above, these items are perfectly legal. And I am allowed to own them as pictured, as well as I am allowed to assemble them into complete guns. So no worries from this side.

Many European countries don't care if you have 'converted autos'. To them a semi-auto is a semi-auto, whether or not it was a full auto earlier in life.

    Hello Promo,
Your correct about the SN# being stamped forward because of a later style rear adj sight being installed.

Wait for fellow member TenOcee to stop by. He has some good notes on IP's as far as serial range and barrel use.

    Cheers,

For certain I collect serial numbers for IP especially, so any that can be posted, PMed or emailed would be welcome. For the IP a barrel by Underwood dated in the 1-43 to 4-43 would prob be most common. Later dates can be found. There's also a possibility of a Rockola barrel dated 1-43.
A small P proofing should be around 6-1/2" or a little more from the muzzle and a 2nd P isn't uncommon.

Excellent. It helps. My data probably doesn't mean as much to other people. I only collect complete serials because it's the specific Carbine I'm interested in and not patterns of parts. It's probably a miss on my part but it's what Ive done.

When someone sends me a serial through wufoo I collect what is given and make a note it's a Wuffoo submission so that I protect that info for the owner.
