    Google is watching us!

    Milsurp friends and site owner,

FYI, Google is watching us! Every so often I do a Google search on myself to see what comes up. Answer-more than I want.

Recently I searched my forum name and came up with a list of of all my started threads and even some useful post likes.

Site owner. Can you change anything that will keep Google from linking participation on this site to the Google memory hord?

    Pro and con.
It allows us who search for information another avenue to explore for answers, links, fora, and websites.
Makes you 'easy' to find meaning there might be money in people contacting you for work.
Can increase your family, work and social worth if they find your contributions on the net. Leaves a legacy to later generations too.
It also invades privacy to a certain extent.
Makes you aware of the longevity of what you say on the internet and social media.
Your name is already out there en getting it removed will, I suspect, be impossible.
Also your name will appear in other searches, it is astounding what Google will find. I have such hits going back about 20 years.
    Etc, etc, ...

It's the pictures I've sent to random user names that I worry about, not my words.

There's a well-known freeware program you can download which tracks all the "packets" of data going in and out of your PC. Unless you have your firewall set up to ask your permission for all traffic, you wouldn't notice the constant chatter back and forth between your computer and all kinds of outfits. Companies love to know all about you and what you're doing and the data is very valuable and marketable. After the program had tracked my ingoing and outgoing packets for while, a little googling LOL showed all my traffic was going to an air base in Commiefornia where there is a large "research" operation owned by you-know-who! So being curious I phoned up tech support at my ISP and asked what was going on. The lady who answered didn't know so went off to ask her manager. When she came back on the line her voice had changed as though she had suffered a mild shock . He had confirmed that the traffic was indeed going to that location and wanted to know why I wanted to know!

Velcome to brave new vorld comrades! Vee have zee evidence- now vee need only create zee crime!
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

Much changes, much remains the same.

    Hi Steve ...

Google has always been watching, which is how they make a living.

Short of taking the site down off-line so nobody can access it, there's not much we can do from our end.

    Check out this article.

How to Stop Google From Tracking Your Searches

    Regards,
    Doug

It doesn't really matter your forum name bringing up a list of your forum posts, as a result of googling, provided that you don't use your real name or part of it as your forum name.

Unless you happen to have an extremely unusually name, googling one's name is likely to produce multiple possible results. Obviously the person doing the googling will know which one is themselves but a stranger is likely to have greater difficulty figuring it out. In other words it is easy to get lost in a crowd.

Search engines don't work by magic; they work by looking for words and subjects etc.

Our site is the most secure gun site on the Internet and has been firewalled using Sucuriicon for years.

How safe from viruses and hackers am I when using the Milsurps.Com web site?

Try looking at the security/privacy settings on your computer perhaps?

Earlier today I decided to "google" several of the "usernames" that have posted to this thread, including the OP. It's interesting that a few that have uncommon or very specific combinations of letters/characters show up with several pages of "hits" on this forum. Those who use the same "handle" on popular social media sites really stand out. Other's who use very common words, phrases, etc. in their usernames show almost no references to this forum. To me it looks like we should make sure we use unique passwords, but maybe something more common for our usernames wouldn't allow big "G" to single us out so easy. - Bob
