A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Posed or desperate...I doubt the enemy were that close. The sniper was probably in having coffee and this guy's mugging with his rifle...

Jim I think it is a Redneck muzzle brake to stop the muzzle climb when touched off, it appears he maybe sitting on the back of the trench.
I feel allot of chaps that exposed themselves that much in a frontline trench would meet an untimely demise very quickly.

Quite a few snipers did not use any attachment to the muzzle of the M1C or M1D because it might affect the accuracy at long range, USMC sniper Sgt Boitnott who made
quite a few very long range "kills" during the Korean War did not use any attachment.

I like the picture, but I don’t think any sniper would expose himself that way...
