No 5 rifle grenade sight and No7 bayonet

Well, every now and again, I get lucky while scrounging for reloading items. I was at a yard sale and bought several Lyman bullet molds, along with a few vintage weaver scopes and various sporting rifle small parts.

After this, I went a local gun shop to (hopefully) trade the items for either 303 brass or projectiles. As the owner was rooting around his storage area for 303 brass, I spied the unmistakable swivel-pommel of a No 7 bayonet, sticking up out of a box of bayonets. I asked if it was for sale, and the owner was convinced it was for a jungle carbine. I explained what it was really for (No4 rifle), and asked what he wanted for it. I think he was a little deflated, as he had a $300 dollar price tag on it when he thought it was for the No5. He parted with it for a reduced price. As I looked deeper in the bayonet box, I also spied a No5 rifle grenade sight. I purchased that too, and gave $250 for both items.

You never know what is lurking in a gun shop's shabby boxes.

Did the bayonet come with a scabbard? It looks like a nice example.

No scabbard, and I couldn't convince the owner to separate out an L1A1 bayonet from it's sheath. I did try, though...

Thanks for pointing out it's shape. It is in very good condition. It blew the owners mind when I showed him how pommel rotated.

Many are convince it's some dual duty of #5 rifle bayonet and other...until you ask them to explain. Then all they can come up with is the muzzle ring size is big... Very nice catch on both.
    Regards, Jim
