I Need Your Help ---- Long Rifle Firing Pin Opinions

Ok. I recently picked up a Type 99 Long Rifle that matches except for the firing pin and safety. Finally got it to the range and discovered that the tip of the firing pin is broken. Doesn't even strike the primer.

Question is... Do I spend the $75 - $100 for a new pin and still have a mismatched bolt or do I spend $165 for an actual complete matching Long Rifle bolt with a serial number that is very close to the rifle. That would give me a rifle that matches to itself with a complete matching bolt that is mismatched to the rifle. Trying to figure out which would be better in the long run and the best way to spend the money.

The new bolt has the firing pin number stamped on the sear and the extractor is marked on the edge the way the early long rifles were stamped. Safety has the correct manufacturer marks for my rifle.

I will keep the original bolt for posterity sake.

I'd suggest finding someone who can re-tip the firing pin and paying a lot less for the service.

I agree, it's a bit of drill rod and a touch of weld at most. Maybe a bit of judicious grinding to contour it...

Or face it off and drill a hole for inserting that bit of drill rod. Then it could even be brazed in (less specialized equipment) and it wouldn’t be going anywhere.

Since the bolt works fine and the firing pin didn't match to begin with, I would just get a new firing pin. Those rifles were designed to have the pins replaced every so often (as evidenced by your current pin failing) so it should work just fine and save you $80 with a whole bolt. It's getting hard to find people with the skills to fix your old pin which doesn't match anyway.
