    Parker-Hale 5B Sight

I found a used P-H 5B sight today and installed it on my P-14. It did not come with a replacement sight axis screw.

What sort of surprised me was that the original sight axis screw was plenty long enough to secure it.

I had always read where the original sight axis screw was too short and you had to use the one supplied by P-H.

I did the same thing with my PH5B sight. The spare screw I bought is always handy, just in case.

I was looking at the P-H fitting instructions on-line and it looked to me like they were saying to use the original axis pin. I even made sure I was getting enough "bite" through the threaded stud on the sight by screwing the pin into the sight and counting the turns and all was well.

I fitted one to a WW-2 rebuild M1917 years ago and if memory serves the sight's axis pin was too short. Thing is I don't recall if I ever tried it with the original pin or not but simply used the one supplied with the sight as it was new in box/wrap and came with one. Again maybe I was just going by what I read on-line.

That and it also needed a P-14 bolt stop/ejector box spring to make it work without narrowing the rear of the M1917 spring.
