    1858 Hammer Loop Percussion Rifle

    Hello all,

This is at an upcoming auction and black powder stuff is pretty far out of my wheelhouse. The description claims the lockplate says 1858.

That looped hammer is quite unique! Anyone recognize the origin of this thing?

This has sold. I passed on it without the knowledge of what it was.
    Went for $560.

    Still curious what it is!

'rcathey' - My first reaction was that the arm had Frenchicon Military features. I thought maybe it was a Gendarmerie Carbine, converted from flintlock to percussion?

However, searching 'ring-hammer' percussion carbine brought up Dutch carbine examples made in the 1850's as percussion arms, (not conversions from Flintlock).
