I bought another piece of junk! - Ishapore .410 Musket

Today after getting picking up the M1 Garand I posted pictures of on my earlier post, I also picked the Ishapore .410 Musket I ordered from Century Arms. I saw these for sale on their site listed as ".Ishapore .410 Musket, *Fair/Poor, Incomplete*".

For $75.00 I just could not pass up buying one even though it was a toss of the dice. I got Junk, yes, but boy the potential and what a fun project! Believe it or not, I'm kind of excited to get started on this one. Does anyone have a Rear Handguard for sale?

I'll bet the bore is about perfect, most I saw were even if the outside was rough. A quick bead blast and blue will change everything, you can clean the wood work your self with some acetone or citrus strip or whatever to get the axle grease out...

Thanks Jim. Bore is plugged with grease and crap so won't know until I clear it. There is a crack under the thick black coating on the buttstock as normal so it will need a bath in acetone before I can take care of that. It will be fun to see what she looks like when done.

What a hoot! I can't believe that the action, barrel and bolt numbers match. You will have to make your .410 shot shell casings from blown out .303 British brass.

Yeah, I got lucky on the matching parts. Its always like tossing dice, never know what you are going to get. Thank you for the link on fire forming .303 brass to the .410 it will help when I get to that point.

No being familiar with these rifles, can someone advise me on which Rear Handguard I should be looking for on this? Is it just the standard one with long "ears"?, or did these have something different?

Am I reading the wristguard markings correctly? It seems to show its a 1917 Short Magazine Lee–Enfield Mk II rifle manufactured by the London Small Arms Co. Ltd. Then modified to the .410 by RFI in 1930. Was this common?
I would have thought this was made by RFI of GFI being in India. Of course I know little about Enfileds to begin with let alone this variant.

I think you are... These should have a normal long eared lower handguard. The wood was the same...the ears were permitted to be cut if one broke and the other didn't matter, apparently they weren't deemed essential.

I kind of envy your project. I always have fun with them. I'm glad I picked up one of these in good condition before they skyrocketed in price.

Bummer...but as you say did you NEED it? Maybe not...I have stuff I don't need too.
