    Interesting wooden box- British?

I ran across this at a yard sale many months ago and had forgotten about it. Grabbed it because it had 303 stenciled on it. "AP" for armored piercing"? Any ideas if it's Britishicon and what it may have held. I'm attaching a link to photo bucket for additional images and dimensions.

    Thanks,

    Brian B

I don't think this is a UKicon ammunition box..

    1. Wrong base colour, should be brown not green.
    2. Designation wrong.. should be something like Cart SA .303 AP MK X in yellow.
    3. Style of stencil wrong.. looks Russianicon.
    4. No batch numbers or manufacturer code.
    5. No hazard label.

The box has some internal fitting pieces which do not look like ammunition ones.. I would guess it was for a bit of equipment such as a tripod or similar..

About 6.5" wide inside according to pics? How long? Don't think a tripod as that would be too small... I still think 20 rd boxes laid in across would fit about right.

It certainly bears no resemblance to any Britishicon Wooden Ammunition chest listed in the Army Ordnance Service document that shows Small Arms Packaging.

    Examples of cases :
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...
