    116th Infantry Regiment during 1939
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

It's interesting to note the 116th Infantry Regiment (Virginia National Guard), 29th Infantry Division had M1icon Garands in 1939.

SRS records show that the USMC tested alot of four digit gas traps M1icon rifles plus the promotion of the Johnson rifle and their reluctance to part with the M1903
keep the M1 rifles from being issued to them

RCS is right, the Corps didn't want to give up their '03s for the new-fangled and untrustworthy self-loaders. When they finally did, they said everybody except the infantry divisions because the sand in an amphibious invasion would gum them up. Oy vey.

Real men measure once and cut.
