Mystery Winged Badge
Is anyone able to tell me the origin and exactly what this badge is for, please? It was sold to me as WW2 German
but I wasn't convinced that it was before I purchased it and am still not because it has no swastika incorporated into it. While it could be German it could have also have originated from somewhere else.. I purchased it because it looked interesting and it was reasonably priced.
As can be seen it appears to be a combination of a wing or, perhaps, a bird and a wheel.

We had something similar before.

It is an emblem of the Reichsbahn. The Reichsbahn was established in 1920 (check!) and continued through WWII into the DDR, i.e. up to 1990! So do not make any assumptions about the date. It will be necessary to study variations in style to narrow down the period.

I've seen that before but don't know exactly where. It's a pretty common symbol and has been used will all sorts of things. Usually associated with cars or motorcycles.
This particular one does appear to be the Reichsbahn as Patrick pointed out.

I thought that the wing part of the badge may indicate something to do with flying rather than something to do with railways.

At one time the R.A.C. (Royal Automobile Club) had motorcycle "roadside assistance" people; if I remember the old Brockbank cartoons correctly, didn't they use a logo similar to this somewhere on their outfits?

Not that one, but it is surprisingly hard to find photos of pre-war RAC uniforms.

I am told they had the single wings but people mistook them for air crew sonow they have these doubled up tie pins
