    Nasenlöcher im Regen

When I was an Instructor at Ft, Benning I met many non-US NCOs and officers who were either attending courses or were liaisons for those attending. One colorful character was a Germanicon BW Fallschirmjäger Sergeant Major who would jump with our HALO team occasonially. One day he met one our most obnoxious officers. When the officer left, SGM stuck his nose up in the air and exclaimed "Nasenlöcher im Regen!" He then smiled and winked and said it means "nose holes in the rain!". I never forgot that expression and still use it today to describe arrogant and obnxious attitudes.

I bore you with this story is for this reason:

I want to THANK ALL the members of this forum for the friendly and professional way they conduct themselves here. I don't ever see "Nasenlöcher im Regen" displayed here. I belong to and have belonged to many "Militaria" sites and it never seems to fail that many posters feel they are superior to other members in collection and knowledge. They always seem direct this attitude toward new members. This is especially true amongst the more senior members. This attitude rears its ugly head most often in M1icon rifle and helmet forums. It is the reason I no longer go to many forums anymore. Too much drama.

    Thanks again.

I ran into that very thing on another local forum years ago...dealing with M1icon rifles. Never did understand how they thought they could treat people badly or talk the way they did. Stayed here after...

I'll echo that sentiment Bear. Great post. I had a tiff with a well known board and it's moderator over just the silliness of things. Hostile without reason or ration. Whatever, spend your life miserable if that's your deal, I'll just keep moving along. And it's why I spend my time here. That and jaw-dropping expertise. I mean when you step back and look at this forum in it's entirety the accumulated knowledge must run into the tens of thousands of years. And all offered patiently with a healthy tone. Frankly I'd have to attribute that to the Canadianicon and European influence. There I said it.
I have a lot more experience than expertise, still have both eyes and most of my fingers though.

I've had problems with some forums not liking the fact that I suggested another forum that was more specific in answering a members question. A forum that was dedicated to his type of firearm. All I was doing is trying to help. This forum has a lot of good helpful folks.

Ditto, I mentioned Milsurps and referenced various articles by our PL a few years back on another well known US based forum, it brought forth a deluge of rather odd anti Britishicon abuse via PM....

I haven't bothered going back since...

Doug runs a tight ship and together with its moderators and self policing and engaging knowledgeable membership, it simply cannot be bettered!

We have some Europeans on this forum, but I would attribute that tone to the Britishicon influence, which of course is not "European". It has come down "through the family" of Empire to those of us in the Commonwealth with some additions and modifications, sometimes for the better and sometimes not. There I said it!

(The trick of course is to preserve the best, while correcting the rest...)
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.

I would add a helping of Italianicon into the mix with Ovidio, who's record breaking Covid19 thread has helped many of us have a far better understanding of what's really going on in our respective countries and provided a much needed sounding board through the crisis for many of us.
