1914 Lithgow bayonet- Turkish Mauser conversion

I have a question I'd like to have cleared up about a bayonet I purchased a few months back. It is, as stated in the title a 1914 P'07 bayonet made at Lithgowicon, that somehow ended up in Turkishicon hands and was converted for use on their mausers. I've heard varying stories on how the Turkish got their hands on the bayonets from capturing them at the siege of Kut and Gallipoli, to buying them postwar. What is the general consensus on that? Would post pictures but not sure how to from my phone.

They did in fact convert bayonets that came to hand. I'd suspect both cases of post battle and surplus. They just made lemons into lemonade...they had 'em so they used 'em... They did others too.

I would love one of the Turkishicon 7.92 converted SMLE's, such an interesting off shoot of the Enfield story.

As an aside, some years back a mate of mine sent me some pics of SMLE magazines on sale in a Turkish market among all the usual tourist crap when he was on holiday, probably from the many hundreds of converted Enfields...

This is my understanding too. I suppose you could narrow down the possibility if the bayonet has dated unit markings, but I'm not sure it's possible to definitively say one way or the other on any individual example. With the 1914 date on yours, it's certainly a possibility.

No luck with attaching the images on my phone. This link should work though Lithgow 1914 bayonet Turkish conversion - Album on Imgur

Mine Is also a little different from most others I've seen in a few ways:
    -It's a Lithgow
    -It lacks the clearance hole
-It's entire cross guard has been completely replaced

The lack of a clearance hole suggest to me that it at least could have been left at say Gallipoli, and that it was not sold postwar by the Britishicon who would have added it (from what I've heard at least). Then again I am biased towards that assumption, as it makes the bayonet alot more interesting to me.

Not an expert on bayonets (or really much of anything) so sorry if I mix up terminology, or facts.
