    sights and sight plane

really don't have a great sub section for sights, so heres my question

eplain the idea of the sight plain to me please.

was told that I CANNOT use AR-15 sights as sold by Troy Industries on any rifle if the BASE of the sights will not be on the same plane of the rifle.

somehow the person who responded was thinking outside the box to wonder about

    1. clamp on gas tube with rail for the front sight to attach to,

    2. use a tall front sight, and a medium or short rear base...

am I just nuts here? I know the insanity is knocking on my shoulder, but I don't think its blowing in my ear yet. much any ways.
