P14 India consignment

I read from an old thread, ( as I was perusing ) about the initial 20,000 ERA P14's being sent to India.
I would like to know / hear more about this? I have a 4 digit ERA so this would put it well within that range, I would like to find out more, about where this rifle has been. It is now in NZ but has no NZ markings it has been sold out of service and has the two arrows that point to this and the nitro proof marks required for SOS.

It also shows no "stars" so it has not been upgraded or been to WRS as far as I can tell. Serial # 9103

As far as I know, a number of P-14 (about 100,000) were shipped directly from the manufacturer (Remington or Eddystone, depends on the sources) from the USA to India in 1916.

If possible the rifle in full, the marks on the butt-stock and the areas where Indian (?) marks appears.

No you misunderstood. Rifle has no ' india 'markings ( to my knowledge ) I was purely recanting that I had seen a post on here that stated ' the first 20000 ERA's went to India.
What would am India marking look like?
Will put up photos of wjole rifle when able.

I tried to determine the amount of the initial shipments and how that was accomplished and what transpired after WWI. There appears to be several different groups of Eddystones being shipped to different locations, the two groups of early Eddystones some that were shipped to India and some that went to Romania. Most of the early Eddystones were stamped EY due to feeding problems. Some of these early Eddystones were not marked. How they escaped the EY marking only history knows.

From what I can see your rifle carries British commercial proof marks, meaning it once was in the UK as well as in private hands.

Your images are very limited, does the rifle still have its original stock? Are the ears cut off? Is the stock sportered? I assume, since missing the handguard. Bolt looks heavily pitted compared to the receiver, which btw looks refinished.

The "Indian Rifles" as I know from P.14 and Ross Rifles usually have stock stamps. If yours misses the original stock and/or has a modified/sanded stock, it will be impossible to make up an Indian connection.

Yes it is a sported stock, but otherwise intact with original stamps and ears. I was just trying to ascertain as originally mentioned whether it may have been in the "lot" issued to India. But obviously records of today from 100 years ago aren't that accurate or available. I only put up limited photos' to prove the serial number as being in the 4 digit range. As its not a full wooded rifle I saw little value or interest in it other than the possible link to India consignment.

Bubba or Rangi as we know him, has done a fine job with his new linishing wheel and buffed the hell out of the bolt!
So only the stock would have been marked for "india" then @Promo
