@USGI - I went over the front sight with a magnifying glass - looks like a faint "7" over the front retaining pin. I can't get a good image with the camera, so I am not 100% sure. There is an "N" by the sight post, however. All parts are prime, (S'G'), marked with the exception of the barrel band and bolt. Attached are the original bolt assembly which was polished by someone long before my time. All parts are marked S'G'. The last pic is the crack where the bolt spectacularly failed one day on the range.
Correct parts to bring this back to "All Original" are going to be expensive, but I welcome the challenge. On closer inspection, it almost looks like the S in Saginaw was struck over the I for Irwin Pedersen at the rear of the receiver? Interesting.

That's an interesting story and Carbine. And it's about impossible to find them without having had something done to them. So, it's lived and bled a little. I like it. Stock would be very expensive unless you luck into one. The band is pretty easy even when avoiding the fakes.

Saginaw stamps can be pretty heavy, and that's the edge of the stamp you're seeing at the S. If it had a Irwin stamping prior I'd expect the receiver tooling hole on the left side to be rounded instead of left with a squared ear.

That's a neat Carbine. I updated the thread on the Carbine Collector site with next lower and higher. They're both demils 1848289 & 1856057.

My sig: Consider adding IP/S'G's to my registry. I've found 3 sets of consecutives & WILL immediately inform you of one if you won't cut my throat like someone else did, I do it to help us both. https://grandrapids.wufoo.com/forms/zzlnt0519k86xs/

I've been wondering if you knew the markings on the original bolt parts? Yours are identical to mine, except I have a "bomb" following S'G' on the lug. I'm curious if your rear sight leaf is marked? - mine isn't. Your front sight is probably the original. Mine has the N "in-line" with the blade, but some were stamped horizontal and can look more like a Z. Yours has had a lot taken off the blade - about the same as mine, which is marked with a large 7. Some were marked with smaller size number stamps. A few members here have worried about having an unmarked safety, and rushed to replace it. Mine's unmarked like yours, and I believe it's the original. - Bob

USGI, some Saginaw GR sight leafs were marked and some weren't. I don't know of any serial groupings for those markings.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

My understanding is that Grand Rapids assembled a lot of rear sights from components. Probably not all their suppliers marked the leafs? - Bob
