P14 parts - type font used?

Hello. I am working through several P14 and an assortment of parts. I am noticing at least two fonts were used on maker's marks - a "serif" font with the tails on the letters, and a "sans serif" font with no tails. Is this a clue to dating from when the parts were produced? I am not able to find anything about that in my small reference library, so would appreciate hearing if the font used is significant?
