Gald you were able to "win" the bayonet for your rifle. Having a complete rifle later one will pay in the end. Complete bayonet setups like the one listed have to be hard to find and like you said few and far between, even more, no since there are more collectors then before. Love to see a picture of the rifle in its complete condition...

Now...bayonet arrived today. Looked over the attachment..and obviously the piece on the rifle now needs to come off...Bayonet attaches with 2 screws in same place. What do I do first to remove the piece on the gun ?. It slips off..but do I remove the top of the handguard first..or just tap it till it looses and comes off ?. It looks like the sight remains in place..and the bayonet slips back into the same spot. Any help appreciated. I want to get it all together...Thanks..JV..PS..Have the correct screws..

Got the bayonet assembly figured out.. Now..I want to remove the action from the stock. Is there a trick to removing the band with the swivel on it. I depressed the spring..but it doesn't want to come off. Don't want to damage the wood..thanks..JV..

One of my dreams... I guess I'll never have one though.
Expensive like hell here, and difficult to find.

Well...The 44 is finished..Got the action out OK..Checked numbers..seems, from what I've read, there are 2 kinds of numbers..serial and assembly..My bolt...dust cover...receiver all match.. There are 2 Japaneseicon characters stamped on the bottom of the stock. The MUM has been defaced...and I'm thinking about having my gunsmith restore it. What do you guys think ? Obviously, the bayonet number doesn't match...but there is little I can do about that..I'm on the hunt for a 38 Carbine. Have a lead on a hoard in Florida..supposedly another 44 Carbine in the bunch too...Thanks for all the help. I have a Swedishicon Mauser...and another Spanish Carbine on the way..both "sporterized"..but very well done..I'm not a purist, except when it comes to my double gun collection. A Parker with cut barrels just won't do !. Hope everyone gets through this Virus outbreak without problems.....Jerry..

I'd leave as is. A restamped mum doesn't increase the value and the fact it was removed is part of the history of the rifle and helps to tell its story. The fact you have a matching receiver and bolt with a matching dust cover puts you way ahead of the game already. Those matching dust covers are extremely difficult to find!
