Good grief. Lifestyle cost him a bunch of money.
Two acquaintances here did similar. One with a straight inheritance and one with mesothelioma lawsuit money inherited from a cancer non-survivor. Then she sued her brother for more money she thinks she's owed. She's nuts.

Yeah right on dont the sharks and knives come out when your parents/grand parents pass on people you never heard off crawl out from under the rock and stick their frikin' hands out.
Remember me twice removed from the estranged Uncle that lived in timbuktoo, me I'd rather have my mum & dad back money means nothing over flesh & blood.
Thats why I am decimating my super and other stuff buying up and having a go of it as why should I work for 40+ years just to hand it over mean nope smart as the only way kids learn is to have nothing like we all have.
And earn it through blood and sweat and saving for it you appreciate things a whole lot more.

I waited 30 years for a sniper T until I was in a position to acquire one as I never had enough money, pay the bills, feed the family either way then at the end you have what little remains to try and bring your partner some happiness, like a small present or flowers goodness knows we have all been in that zone.
Now after my H/A I may live to a ripe old age but family history on my side is very poor of the seven of us we are now 2 me and my eldest sister and she's 73 I have to have a CT scan to make sure I am not in line for an brain anuerysm.
As thats what took out mum and my 2nd eldest sister apparently 1st gen are likely to inherit the condition.

I see little clues that indicate that some folks may be buying for investment groups. I see one bidder on Gunbroker who spends about $25,000/month on moderate to high end guns, often paying more than the usual "market" price. Doesn't seem to be a collector, due the wide range of interests: new Colts, old Colts, scarce AK variants; I'd run out of storage space in a few months. I don't know, maybe he just hit the lottery.

Supply and demand. Auction sites tend to cater to them as what don't know what they're buying too.
"...a house around the corner..." Up here, the housing market doesn't seem to have been bothered by the Covid Panic. Average sale prices are up 22%.

Sometimes it's the deceased that tears the family apart. The first instance was a nice couple. The surviving son was raised Jewish and around 50 when his mother was dying. That's the point where she chose to inform him he's adopted and not really Jewish. Talk about twisting a person into knots. He and his wife blew through the inheritance in under 2 years. At least they spent a good amount on real estate.
My sig: Consider adding IP/S'G's to my registry. I've found 3 sets of consecutives & WILL immediately inform you of one if you won't cut my throat like someone else did, I do it to help us both. https://grandrapids.wufoo.com/forms/zzlnt0519k86xs/

I couldn't agree more Ron. Spoiling Children is exactly that.

If you're never had to work hard for what you have, you have no idea of the blood, sweat, tears and years it takes build an estate.

I lost a good friend and business partner earlier this year and the amount of people who tried to grab
'low hanging fruit' from the business and estate was quite the eye opener.

People you considered friends happy to try (not on my watch) and steal from his wife and daughter...

I thought in my 52 years on this planet, I had a good grasp of people, I do now..

A word of warning to all of us in this position, people you would never think capable, can and will make a play, be vigilant!

Bottom line, the open market sets prices/values. 'Its worth what someone will pay for it.' Whether you like the price trends or not, at this moment, that's what's happening. If things settle down after the election, you will see a dip in values, but they will rise again at some point. 'Supply and Demand' rules pricing now as it always has and always will. If you sell to other collectors for less, you're just 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' when you could make twice as much elsewhere. I've been thinking of selling my carbine for years - maybe now is the time!

COVID, ANTIFA, riots, demonstrations, shortages in some areas, have really impacted the firearms market, especially in California. Between March and September CA DOJ had over 3 million first time buyer purchase guns. Glock and Henry Repeating Arms are each 1 million pieces behind existing orders.

I work part time at a local gun shop in Nor-Cal. We have literally no handguns except a few collectables. We have no semi auto rifles of any kind on the shelf, not even 22s. Whatever we get in from a consignment or occasional luck of the draw from a wholesaler is gone within hours. Ammunition is the same thing. No 223 or 5.56, 9mm, no 40 or 45, and n o .36 special. It is madness. I was fortunate to be working when 300 Black Out ammo came in. I got 1/3, another regular got 1/3, and 1/3 went on the shelf.
