    Vickers MG videos and info

    Good day all,

Some of you might well be aware of our YouTube channel and Patreon pages but I wanted to share it specifically as we’re adding much more regular content at the moment.

Some of the recent work on the YT channel includes photo analyses of original photos that include the Vickers as well as starting a series of training videos on the Barr & Stroud rangefinder. Hopefully these will get support and traction so we can replicate the rifle, bayonet, Bren and (of course) Vickers videos. The link is www.youtube.com/vickersmgcollectionresearchassociation

Alongside this, we’ve been adding an almost complete set of the Small Arms Committee minutes (to be complete when we can get a slot at the National Archives again). We’re up to 1931 and it includes all the Britishicon small arms development reports as well as a lot of international small arms too. These are available to Patreons through www.patreon.com/Vickersmg and those subscriptions are supporting the Association when we can’t have visitors.

I hope stuff is of interest and I’ll try to remember to add the specific relevant videos as we create them.

    All the best

    Richard

Small Arms Training, Pamphlet No. 10, Range-Finder No. 12, 1942: The first lecture in the Range-Finder training scheme. This outlines the content of the course, main definitions, how the training will work and what's expected of the new rangetakers.

These series will hopefully develop into different types of training (including the likes of the Bren light machine gun, the bayonet and the rifle) eventually culminating with the full Vickers machine gun training series. This needs serious funding so please do come and support us on Patreon: Patreon

More information (and a 1949 copy of the training syllabus - we're using 1942) is available here: Training the Range-Taker The Vickers Machine Gun

If you want to see a copy of the 1942 manual that we're using, then it's available here: Small Arms Training Manuals The Vickers Machine Gun

Today we've added a Q&A video responding to some of the common questions we've been asked.

What are the different muzzle attachments? What bullets should inert ammunition have? Did guns and tripods stay together? How do you adjust the fusee spring? How do you lace the barrel casing cover? These are some of the questions we've received from followers and Patrons. If you'd like anything researched and answered regarding the Vickers machine gun (or perhaps the Lewis, Bren or other related weapons), then please get in touch through the comments here or through our Patreon page

"Patreon is the last refuge of a scoundrel" Just kidding!

S.A.C. Minutes would be worth paying for; what year do your holdings start?
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.

We have 1900 to 1938 (excluding 1902 just now but that should be sorted next week). This is the entire period of the 'modern' Small Arms Committee. We're then moving on to the Ordnance Board memoranda to cover the Second World War developments. A copy of the index we've built (which is fascinating in itself) is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/40900032

Patreon is being good to us at the moment. It gives us some secure storage for all of this info and has started to build a community that can support the Association to do more interesting work. We're a not-for-profit and largely funded from donations and occasional consultancy work at the moment. We'd usually be having those donations through visits and firing demonstrations but the current pandemic limits us doing that sadly.

Patreon isn't our last refuge, but it is our latest. The Vickers MG website has been online since 1999 now so many would have said the same when I first wrote it 21 years ago.

    Thanks for your support.

    Rich
