    Mosin Nagant 30-06 Cal

I always seem to find interesting tidbits when I read only gun magazines. I recently picked up a Sept 1041 issue of The American Rifleman.

In the "Dope Bag" section I found in interesting, if not reprimanding, article on rechambering of the Mosin Nagant in 30-06. From the tone of the article, it would seem that this conversion happened often and should not have been. Led to some nasties happening.

I don't ever recall anyone that I know of ever talking about changing the chamber to anything. just not worth the trouble.

I believe the government bought lots of Mosins from Remington and Westinghouse after the Bolshevik revolution prevented them from being sent to Russiaicon.
These firms were the “too big to fail” of the time.
I seem to recall some of these were converted to 30-06 for training purposes...or maybe it was just something Bannerman did.

Sorry I can’t speak more definitively...I have only vague recollections of this haha.

Russia wasn't paying. They were delaying by failing inspections for no reason. Government did buy 280,000 to save Remington and NEW from bankruptcy. I know many were sold to civilians. I think some were used for training. I know Bannerman did convert many to .30-60 but pretty sure most of them were Russian made along with Berdans.

And didn’t Franceicon do the same with the rifles Remington built for them?

I’ve never had any issues with Remington firearms of that era but there is a common denominator here....
