    Sometimes you just gotta laugh....

At the Range yesterday, a bit of banter among the mob.
Paul, an ex serviceman that had spent time in the sand, was plinking away trying to get a group in rather blustery conditions, when Bob the resident smartarse made a crack about the size of the group....well that got an instant retort to the effect that the Taliban never complained...instant quiet as Bob slinked away.

Which brings me to the point of this narrative, 1956 and my father and two of his brothers on the old Scone Range, Harry, the eldest and captain of Randwick Rifle Club, has a go at Arch the youngest brother, an ex 2/3rd Anti Tank Regt. member, about the score he was putting up at 1000 yds.
As Arch was out of earshot, my Father quipped for him...".he just needs a bigger gun and a Tank to aim at."
That crack has stayed in my mind to this day, the fact is Arch was a bloody good gunner, this letter from a member of his gun team might give you a bit of an idea....

This action was written up in the official histories, but letters I have on file are slightly different from the official view, not that Arch or his brothers care, they are long gone.
