    Reassembly #5

    Getting close.

Time to take out the Marbles rear sight. Simply turn the windage screw counter-clockwise and you'll see the base move left. Keep doing this until your fingers bleed. Get a band-aid an continue until the sight is free of the lip. Pull up and out.

Anyone know - are these Marbles sight sets worth anything?

Reverse this process to install the new sight. This one was from ebay for $45.00. Not too bad, but it feels like its spring may be sprung. We'll put that on a later "to do" list.

    Reassembly #6

After all that, put the bolt back in and the front sight base/blade, and we're ready to take a test drive. Considering the price of ammo lately, I'm hording my stock; it may be awhile before this gets out the range.

I've got to find a better way to take pics. Everything has a holiday decoration in the way.

    What do you guys think?

I thought I had replied to this thread, but don't see it now.

This likely isn't a NM, but I will still restore, as it didn't cost anything, and it's in pretty good shape overall. Here's what I have currently on my parts list:

    1. Replace stock with "S" Stock
    2. Handguard needed
    3. Upper band needed
    4. Lower band replace
    5. Lower band spring needed
    6. Rear sight replace
    7. Front sight blade replace
    8. Bolt body "NS" needed.

Any other thoughts or ideas? I'd like to keep this as period correct and parts correct as possible.

Thanks in advance. I'm new to 1903s, and all the varieties and flavors, so please bear with me as I learn more.

Update: Between Dupage, Numrich and Ebay, I've purchased all parts except for the rear sight and NS bolt body. Didn't go for a replacement stock, but rather a replacement forend, that I'll have to glue/dowel in my woodshop. Everything came to a total of $150, so the updated total for this piece is now $225 + $150 = $375.

I think that's all I'm going to do for now with this 1903. I'm going to put it up on the rack where it can be with its friends (3rd from right). I've got a few other projects going, so I'll probably start another thread as I get around to it.

From the original budget, I noticed that one of my earlier posts was correct, the other had a pricing error - the rifle was $250.00, rather than $225. So in total, it was $250 (rifle) +$150 (parts order) +$45 (rear sight) = $445.00. I'm still missing a period correct bolt body, but that will come later.

Good price, but plenty of work. Hope everyone enjoyed the thread and maybe somebody got answers to a question they needed.

Here's a better side-by-side of the original vs final. I don't know why I didn't think of this originally, but it's easier to see the entire rifle. I guess I didn't think of rotating the pic before uploading...
