Need affordable optics for my K31

I have not purchased a mount yet, so that is still up in the air. I'm looking for a reasonably priced scope and I'm pretty new to "real" rifle scopes, so I'd like to get some input from some people. I'd like to be able to shoot 300yards at least, ideally 400-600 but I have to watch the price on the setup.

I'm open to looking for some used scopes if that is a decent choice. IDK if scopes can become damaged and be difficult to tell until sighting them in, so IDK if I should stay away from that or not.

If anyone can give me some ideas on what I should look for in a scope, I'd really appreciate it. I usually spend a lot of time researching this stuff but I have been so busy I don't have enough time to feel comfortable making a choice by the time I need to make a purchase.

Also, if you have a suggestion on the mount, I'd be appreciative to hear what you think. I'd REALLY like to avoid drilling & tapping b/c I don't want to damage this beauty, but ATM, I might not have any other option.

Take a look at Konus. They are good, without breaking you bank account.
For the mount, I bought a badace one. Good.

Depends on what you want to do with it. A lot of shooting needs a more robust scope, occasional shooting not. Any scope will allow you to shoot as far as you want, adjustable ones just make the target definition at longer distances clearer and your trembling and movement with breathing very noticeable.

A 38/3-6 should be more than sufficient. I have bought only one new scope all the rest have been pre owned and used. Never had a problem.

Thanks for that link! The mounts that I had been looking at were $109-129 which seemed pretty steep compared to what it actally is... I'll devinetly consider this!!! Thank you!

I was at Walmart the other day and I saw some scopes they had sitting on the shelf, some with red tags on them and it seemed they were priced VERY low (like 75-80% off!). I was told that they often sell these are extremely low prices, usually when a new model was coming out. Not long ago, someone I know got a 7mm mag & 300 Win Mag, with a very nice scope for $72 each! I think normal price was pushing $6-800+ normally. So I think they do the same with scopes from time to time, so I'm hoping to some of the scopes I'm interested in might be coming down in price..

Here are some of the scopes I was looking at - All Bushnell. I've seen these in the stores I frequent, so I know they stock them, but there may be beter options online but they might not have the deep discounts at end of year clearance. Which one would you suggest if $$ wasn't an issue in this choice?

Now these might not be the best scopes, but if things work out the way they did last year (I had a clerk check prices they sold for), I can expect 40-70% off of these and even more if it's open box (with full warranty + 2 more years from my credit card - so Manufacturer's + Credit card warranty. - I just looked an it seems Bushnell has lifetime replacement warranty!

Well if this is the case, I should look into a red-dot & standard scope for my 22lr & my " A Are 30/2" I never knew any optics makers offered lifetime warranties which is why I was so slow to buy!!

Monstrum won me over awhile back. https://monstrumtactical.com/first-focal-plane/

I've tested four of their scopes three G series and one Alpha (even ladder and tracking) and trust them enough to take hunting. I've been using them for four years now without issue. The glass is good and I have no issues in low light with them. I particularly like their ALPHA 6-24 X 50 FFP scope ($160.00) this thing is a tank. Here it is on my Son's M18

I will admit though all of my classic rifles have Leupolds and my Bergara has VORXTEX mostly because I get a 40% Veterans discount on them and a pre-64 M70 really needs to have a Leupold...

The Swissicon Product Clamp on mount is absolutely excellent.

For this purpose (Mil Surplus) I just use any scope. I got a couple of Savage actions I converted to Target guns. Nikon, a Burris .

These are not going to be tack drivers at under 1/2 MOA. 1 MOA if lucky, easily 2 MOA. Ergo, any 3 to 9 hunting scope is fine and low cost ones as light gathering not an issue.

I was shooting my 1917 at 105 yards (bottom of the berm and for the targets I can subtract 1/16 if its a close group - just to fool myself). Anyway, its snowing, I am lucky to get close to center of the dot. The load and rifle were amazing, 5 x 3/4 and 7 x 1 1/4. I am a decent shot but no Germain Salazar.

I have a 30-06 Target I have a Nightforce Scope on. That gun can shoot under 1/2 MOA. I can tune it to any range and see sharply. But that is a whole different ball game than Mil Surplus. I got a 1/4 x 5 shot group at 200 meters with that setup once. Darned if I have been able to do it again.

My K-31 gets 1.5 inch MOA on a good day. Some are better to 1 MOA, this one seems to be a poor one but its fun to shoot. I even got some GP-11 to try and its 1.5 inch MOA. On the other hand the 1917 is probably better than 1 MOA without a snow storm. Coin flips.

    I forgot about you, Pierre...
    Sorry about that.
If I buy another K31 I’ll order that scope mount for sure.
