We did have overwhites for our uniforms but didn't wear them for this mission. The snow blocks next to the tent was not for camouflage, it was a wind break. Here is a picture of our fighting positions:

We did gain some notoriety on that mission. Remember it was 1974.

The Battalion Commander was apoplectic when he saw it in the newspaper.

Well BEAR that lad looks really switched on behind some ice cubes which would be better placed in a Gin and Tonic glass.
I am sure it was a "I'm P****d off, I'd rather be somewhere else" photo!!

Didn't realise nearly all the posts there were manned by civilians because the Military heirachy thought the temperatures to extreme for its men!!

Technicians Gil, I did a familiarization range for an Artic Acoustics Group during the fall of "92 and they were all civilians. They told me there were about three doctorates and the rest were just techs. They were this ilk. If they posted us up there to listen to zero beats, troops would end up streaking in the snow or something...when bored... Imagine?
    Regards, Jim

yeh wouldn't believe that, I suppose it could be due to snow blindness
