Not nearly as far a reach as The Da Vinci Code, I guess not everyone's cup of tea.

I thought it was a interesting example of a GI's stock carvings possibly done in theatre.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Charlie, no doubt the carvings are interesting, as I mentioned somewhere before it has lots of character.

"it led me to a lesbian porn site, don't think that's the answer" It is the answer, just too a different question!

Actually, I think it's BeO, not DeO.

The loop on the supposed D is discontinuous, like a 3.

Not that I have a clue what either of them could mean...

Looks to me the eagle is sitting on maybe a state like Iowa or Ohio. Maybe the soldier came from one of those States. I may just be seeing things like one can in the clouds ha ha. I also think it looks more like Beo

I couldn't find BEO in Latin or Greek, or reference to in the Bible.
But I could find the reference in the phrase Hold Uper Deo.

The name may be D. YAbul or YAbut.
The owner added pictures to the link.

YAbul or YAbut look to be common surname in the SE Pacific, especially in the Philippines .

Of course anyone's guess is welcome. Just thought the carvings might be of some interest.
