    Ishapore Serial Number Database

Does one exist? If so I can't seem to find it ... or find any reference to one. If if one doesn't exist, I think I'd like to start one.

Also, since I'm new to this forum, here's a bit myself: I got into collecting in 2006 and was pretty active on surplusrifleforum up until ten years ago, at which point I had to sell off my collection for financial reasons. I'm back into collecting again, and this time I'm focusing on SMLEs -- particularly those produced by Rifle Factory Ishapore.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Two books to get that have a bit of information on Ishapore and serial numbers are The Lee-Enfield by Ian Skennertonicon and Britishicon Enfield Riflesicon Volume 1 by Charles Stratton. Both are essential items in Enfield collecting, I feel.

Thanks for the reply! I've got Stratton's book on order. Skennertonicon's book is a bit outside what I'm willing to pay, but I'll at least spring for his "buyer's guide."

I'll likely still start a serial number database. It would be great if this kind of information was more available. And who knows? Maybe something new will be learned in the process.
