    Fake Colt 601

I wanted to build a fake Colt 601 rifle, I used original green fibre plastic handguards, pistol grip and stock. Also an original waffle magazine and triangular charging handle. All these parts were then assembled on a Colt semi auto Sporter SP1 rifle with a four digit serial number.

I think it looks alright for now, nice to have a photos of the original green color and can always change it back tooAttachment 113412Attachment 113413Attachment 113414

I had a set of that furniture and handed it to a friend close by before the internet evolved. It lies in his mass waiting for his estate to dispose of it after he goes. Just a pile of accumulation. Mine came on the test pattern rifle, minus serial number and with an eroded barrel. Wouldn't matter in this country, they've taken the value out of collectable firearms. Nice looking setup, looks like you employed all the original parts too that you've had in your pocket since then...
    Regards, Jim

    additional early parts

Besides the early plastic and other parts, I did find a very early bolt catch which I did install.

The venders that sell repro parts for restorations do manufacture the early bolt catch but it is a poor excuse when compared to an original bolt catch.

Also note the sling in my photos, early Colt factory Attachment 113462Attachment 113461

I bought some ex National Guard sets from when they switched to the M16A2 stock sets
Some of them were real early buttstocks with the built in sling swivels and no butt trap for
    cleaning stuff
