    Remington 03a3

    Hi
I have begun the process of returning my neighbor's rem 03a3, rescuing it from it's being sporterized. There are no bands. The problem is that the gun is green. Does anybody have any idea about how to help the band match better or just blu them. They don't come in contact with the barrel much. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

I believe Remington the 03-A3 was commonly factory built with a combination of Parkerizing and bluing on certain parts. The bands being one of the blued parts. Maybe the floorplate/trigger guard assy as well?

Years ago I bought what appeared to be an unissued Rem 03-A3. The Parkerizing on barrel and receiver was pale greenish gray and there were some blued parts.

I'll try to remember to check my Brophy Book of the Springfield.

Thank you. I had never seen such a green and was just wanting to do it right.

This thread ought to help you out. Excellent photos of an as issued 03-A3. The parked and blued finishes are a match for my seemingly unissued rifle.

I think zinc phosphate (lighter, greenish parkerization) is more characteristic of arsenal rebuilds. Parts that were originally blued were often parkerized during the rebuild.
