Without looking it up, I think the Korean returns started in the late 80's or early 90's sometime. My understanding is the Korean military had their own sources for replacement stocks and a few were on the returned guns. Blue Sky Productions, Arlington Ordnance , and seems like there were others that imported M1icon Carbines and M1 Rifles during that time period. I'll see if I can find an example of a Korean stock on eBay for comparison. - Bob

    Added Later:

There's several similar stocks on eBay right now with that type wood. Interarms has a couple of new ones. Here's a link to a handguard that's likely Korean - look closely at the grain of the wood:

    Heres a stock:

I have a few boxes full of those 'Import' hand guards. Outside looks or reminds me of a Mahogany Luan with a dark brown/red hue. But inside they have that orange/peach color. I remember selling a box of them 2 for $25 shipped. They are heavy, 4 rivet and have long front lips.

IIRC, Luan is native to the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries. The Ole timers at work used to call the Luan faced doors Philippino Mahogany. The veneers would have the darker brown red color exposed and the glued down side is a whitish orange. Much like Luan sub floor.

Yes, this is most likely the southeast Asian mahogany . I have owned several of the early re imports from Korea including a nice IP rebuild with these stocks. The wood is very strong. They make great stocks for shooter grade carbines. I give the stock a coating of Beechwood TruOil. It fills the grainy look in somewhat and is not too shiny. I believe Arlington Ordnance was the importer.
