A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Be a while before we see these in Oz and probably wont be able to get one due to some frikin obtuse ruling by the police.
Here is a foot note the W.A police have stopped giving us all a hard time with barrel shrouds like say an Elisio action set up as their argument was the shrouds made it look like a military rifle!
So some smart picanniny has taken them on and asked the police dept exactly what does a military rifle look like to which there has been a relaxation to a degree on barrel shrouds not sure on the Ruger precission rifle as our laws here in West Au state that the butt must stay on the rifle and the bolt can be removed.

"...the first American-made straight pull..." Nope.

    Aluminum receiver...nuff said.

Ambidextrous bolt: impressive, and so is the ball-bearings-in-a-groove locking mechanism. I have to wonder about the very small contact area that each ball would have with the wall of the groove however. Even with as many balls as can be packed in that diameter, the total bearing surface is still very small, unless each sits in a matching recess, but the graphics I saw suggest otherwise. Same system as Heym apparently, for a lot less money.

"...a lot straight pulls don't come in magnum calibres because their technology can't handle the pressure..."
I wonder how the Impulse would do with a case full of pistol powder? We know how the 1910 Ross action does, and it's only 110 years old!

And in a similar vein, it seems Merkel is recycling the Ross interrupted thread bolt head.

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.
