    SMLE Mark I and I* s/n assistance

    Greetings All

I would like to confirm factory letter prefixes and suffixes for the early SMLE’s. Below is a list comprised of Stratton, Skennertonicon, and my observations. Many rifles were re-serial numbered over time, I am just looking for factory numbers. If anyone has a correction please let me know.

    Thanks in advance

    Lance

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I can confirm :
    LSA K
    BSA/Spark Q
    Enfield (none)
I do have a .22 RF Pattern 1914 SR No.1 made with a ShtLE Mk I action that was scrubbed from it's original cypher (if it ever had any) and it has a M prefix serial number.
I'm guessing that one might have never had a serial number before being converted by A.G. Parker and it was allocated to it during that period...?...
On a side note, that action also has EFD inspection markings. So another guess is it was initially fabricated by EFD

    ConD 11* 1907 Enfield

Do not know if these photos will be important or not, but show a Cond 11* with early sights and a early tang butt plate. There was someAttachment 114770Attachment 114771Attachment 114772Attachment 114773Attachment 114774Attachment 114775 thought that this might have been a left over Mark 1 action body built up around 1907 ?

    1904 LSA MkI K
    1906 Enfield MkI* Q
    1907 Enfield MkI* X

All were later converted to MkI** or MkI***. The factory number was ground off my unconverted MkI*.
