A sleeper at a recent sale.

Interesting piece went for 1600 to somebody who obviously knew what it was and I hope will appreciate it. I was tempted but I did not need another project so I stopped myself . (a rare occurrence) Correct receiver, bolt, scope base, shims, bottom metal, finish, trigger. Missing stock, butt plate, front barrel band etc. Belonged to a soldier. The killer. Original barrel had been cut by 1/2". The used sporter stock would have been a -$100 to the cost of restoration and the scope and rings another -$75.

So...the bore was perfect I guess maybe he had everything but an original receiver. I'd just like to shoot it as it is. Maybe he had his settings at snipe and forgot to watch the last fifteen minute...it got away from him.

I bought an early (3.41M) sporterized 03A4 almost identical to the one pictured, in 2015 for $400 in a local sale. The seller said he bought it from a sporting goods store, so no telling when it was sporterized. Mine came in a Fajen stock assembly with a hinged floorplate, and had a 3x9 Redfield "Wideview" scope on it. In a similar fashion, it still had the original bolt, scope base, shims, and trigger. Like above, the barrel had been shortened, bolt polished, and all other metal blued. Over about a 6 month period I collected the other parts and a NOS 6-43 barrel to restore it to military configuration. I had the CMPicon Custom Shop re-barrel / headspace the bolt, and re-finish the metal parts for me, and add a bolt cut-out to a C-stock, which I re-finished. It took them about 4 months to do it all, but it was well worth the cost. I got a Weaver K2.5 scope with external adjustments and post crosshairs from eBay, for a reasonable cost. I also got a Weaver K4 scope with crosshairs from another forum, that I can use on it.

I bought an 03A4 through the DCM in 1971 with the intention of putting in an aftermarket sporter stock. Fortunately for me I never got around to sporterizing it. I later found
an M73B1 to mount on it. It looked like it had been well used when I got it but has not been refinished.
