    K98 Assessment??

I have the chance to get a K98icon and would like a price check. I know there are many variables that effect the price but I’m not familiar with the K98 and this is basically a second opinion on price.

Receiver is marked 42 (Mauser Oberndorf?) in 1939, all serial numbers match and all smaller components are stamped WaA83 except for the buttplate (dwc). It is missing the cleaning rod but has what I believe is an original sling. It’s one of the typical scenarios when you heard of a K98 squirreled away in an attic for 30-40 years.

I pulled the action to check for major issues and was happy to see the stock/handguard match. As I cleaned the bore, I noticed a spot wasn’t as tight so after getting it cleaned up, I looked down and believe it has a ringed bore...see pictures below.

    Recap:
    - 1939 made 42 K98
    - Slight red fuzz in some areas, no pitting
    - Can not find any stock proofs but highly doubt it was sanded
    - All matching except buttplate
    - Missing cleaning rod
    - Possible ringed barrel
    - Original sling

Thoughts on price? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like a good buy. What does the seller want?

You basically asked the same thing on gunboards and got replies from persons who are very knowledgeable on K98kicon rifles. They gave you a good estimate as well, I could repeat those, but I think this is senseless. If it helps you, I agree with their evaluation.

According to your last post in the gunboards forum you have purchased the rifle. I'm therefore not sure what you are trying to find out by posting it here because it would not help you with the purchase price. If you however are looking to sell, put it on gunbroker with no reserve and a penny auction, you'll get the maximum this way.
