    DCM "Springfields"

I thought you guys might find this interesting. While looking for something else, I came across the shipping documents for the two 03-A3's I got through the DCM/NRA. I ordered the first one from the announcement in the Sept./1960 American Rifleman. It was shipped 2/2/61, an unissued Remington, from Raritan Arsenal, Metuchen, N.J. There must have been a second announcement since I ordered another one that was shipped Mar 20, 1963 from Letterkenny Ord. Depot, Chambersburg, PA. That one was a Smith Corona with a rack number on it and a replacement Remington 2-groove barrel. And, yes, they were, in fact, $10 plus $4.50 packing & handling, freight collect. You could only get one if you hadn't bought one in the last 2 years, so I must have cut it pretty close.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. My friend bought one for $14.50 too, it was a Remington 1903A3 exc plus condition. Later he bought a DMC Colt M1911 for around the
    same price.

Certain military retail outlets Like the Great Lakes Naval Base, sold barreled action 1903A3's for $10 each to anyone, also 1903 barrels
were $3 each. Most of the barrels had light rust down the first half inch or less in the bore cause by "boots" marching in the rain. They
said that the barreled actions came from damaged stocks during training. Low number 1903's were not sold to the public
