That's a Rock Ola front sight.

Looks like Grandpa also 'Pimped Out' the front sight blade.
Now all it needs is a set of curb feelers, some hanging fuzzy dice and maybe some Neon under carriage lights.....

Grandpa wasn't a Cartel member was he ??

    Be interesting to see inside.

Eddie, don't mind Charlie - he's our resident comedian here on the forum. Guess he missed the earlier post about your carbine's Rock-Ola parts content.

Do you know much about your Grandpa? I'm wondering if he was a machinist or gunsmith, or maybe had a friend that was? That "mid sight" install wasn't done by "Bubba" - same with the barrel crown, and the modified front sight blade. Have you shot it any yet? The stock looks like it's been shortened a bit at the back. Does it still have an original type butt plate on it? That would take some careful work to make it fit.

It's interesting to see a new thread about something really special. I know I've asked more than a "few" questions, but does your barrel have any stamped markings visible? Just one more - is that a 40 round mag shown in the gun? Thanks! - Bob

The barrel looks shorter than a stock carbine would have (Canadaicon?). The sight looks like a Germanicon style sight. Look at a 98K sight and it is longer than this one.

I already suggested that, we wouldn't have those as we already have to register them and many have longer barrels. The mag looks longer than a 30 but isn't, it's just because the carbine is shorter over all I think that it looks long.

    @ GIBOB,

    What did I miss ?
If he hasn't figured out how to get the Hand guard off yet, How do we know all the internals are Rock Ola?

It was reply #20 when he noticed:

Unless there is some method 'I've missed' over the years to pull the action without pulling off the Hand guard.

    If so please enlighten me

    Hey Bob.
Dont worry, dont mind Charly, I like jokes. The barrel crown is the front sight?

Regarding to your questions dont worry its nice to lean from you fellows:

1.- My Grandpa was the sheriff from his little town.
2.- Cant tell who modifed the M1icon.
3.- Yes I shooted a couple of rounds last week.
4.- The stock has a plate it looks like an original, I will take a picture.
5.- The barrel has a little capital P
    6.- The mag is a 30 rd

If you have more questions will be more than happy answer them.

Can you put a rod down the barrel(bolt closed)and measure the length for us? Looking at the front sight shows an original mounting but the early pics here look like it's been shortened.
    Regards, Jim
