    Looking into purchasing

Hi. I am looking into purchasing a 1903 to use as a shooter hopefully with the ability to shoot modern 30-06 ammo.

I don’t have a lot of experience with milsurp rifles. I am currently following these two on gunbroker with interest. Anyone with more experience than I willing to give me their thoughts on which one is a better option for my purpose.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. First one says the bore is shiny and clean...not what I saw. The second one says grey which means probably crappy... I'd hand pick until I found a GREAT bore. The rifle could be put together for all I care as long as the bore is great as a shooter...

You might want to call the CMPicon, My buddy was just at the ANNISTON, AL store and said there are three on the shelf. At least you would know how good of condition and bore are, the CMP sales guys are helpful.

The second 03 (WWII REMINGTON MODEL 1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE-1942 DATED BARREL - Curios Relics at GunBroker.com : 891264511) from the description of the s/n being etched on the bolt and stamped on the but stock would be a Greek return sold through the CMPicon. Which are not bad rifles.
