Type 99 Aircraft Sight Arm springs

One of my aircraft arms is missing the spring (so it just flops around). I am desperately trying to locate one with little luck. I am hoping someone here may have one or even a complete sight with springs.

If this is the wrong forum I do appologize.

These are like hens teeth...your best bet is to check eBay for a slider with wings and springs...depending on condition, they run $65-$100. Look for the arsenal stamp to make sure you get the right one as a collect can easily tell the difference between Nagoya, Kokura or their subs.

There are quite a few of spring makers in my area and if I can find a set outside the sight, I’m 1/2 tempted to see if they can make a run for all us who suffer from Arisakaicon Erectile disfunction.

BTW, I heard if someone in gunboards who made one out of a hacksaw blade. If I get free time, I may see what I can whip up.

A common problem nothing $100 or less and some time searching for a replacement part will not cure. Another problem is an original cleaning rod rather than a reproduction, and then finding an original sling--- the money pit. A labor of love to restore a surplus rifle. Just like vintage autos you invest more cash than you will ever get back.

On flee bay you should find a replacement slide within a year, most take down ground mum or refinished dog arisaka rifles for parts--the parts are worth more than a mismatched, refinished, non mum, rifle missing its cleaning rod. Just takes time and cash; if in a hurry you always can throw a stupid amount of cash and the seller may stop the auction and list it as broken or incorrect description to current low ball bidders. Happens all the time- cash talks.

Libertytreecollectors had them at $68, but sold out fast. You are into a $100 or more adventure. I just checked flee bay and I am way out of date . Prices be crazy, really crazy 118-180 for a complete set. Nuts! Check it out.

At that price maybe use a spring out of a metal Jap wind up toy and make one from its spring. The larger the vintage 1950s wind up toy, the thicker the spring. I use them to fix vintage door latches and where a thin flat spring metal is needed as a replacement for flat springs, or where slightly bent, flat springs are needed. The sights are dogs, I mean real dogs to replace. That is why most just buy an intact original aircraft slide or sight. Heck, back in the day, you got complete rifles with original slings for under $100. Arasaka rifles were junk.

Until you find one, you may want to try and make one using an altered spring from an AR15 build kit. AR's use several different types of small springs that you can easily cut to size. I used one for the sight slider on my M1916 and it worked really well. You can use the spring on the other arm as a guide for size. You can buy full replacement spring kits with all of the different sized springs for ARs for $10-15 on line. Hope that helps!

The AA springs are made from flat spring steel...not coiled in any way.

I may have a sight. It came with some 1917 enfield parts I got a few years ago. I'll do some digging
