    Dark barrel on Krag

I have been scrubbing the dark barrel with minor pitting for two weeks. I’m using Kroil oil. Will it ever clean up? Is there another product I should use? My cloth patches keep coming out black. Oh, what to do? Thanks

The minor pitting could be from corrosive primers, you may get a shine and the next day it'll be soot again. I had a '94 Winchester rifle like that, would clean to shine and then overnight go dark again. Once you have it that way, it won't stay... If it's strong and sharp enough, and it shoots then it's good enough I think.
    Regards, Jim

Hello again R&R! I looked at those pictures of your rifle and wondered what the bore was really like. Buy a box of shells, take it to the range and see how it shoots. If your eyesight is any good you should be able to fire a few shots, then put the next five inside 2-1/2-3 inches. Closer if your eyesight is really good. If the rifle will do that, don't worry how it looks, just enjoy it.

    Good luck.
