Gas block reamer and other SLR tools

Can anybody tell me if the gas block reamer tool is useful?
I am looking for some tools to complete my L1A1.
What other tools were there and can be useful to have like cleaning rod etc?
In one british manual there is mentioned a rod and other tools for the platoon?

Those scrapers and major tools weren't for the regular rifle user. You can do damage to an FN with those in short order. We had a combination tool which had no major scraper and you could still do damage. I can't say what a UKicon section was issued but the Canadians were issued a pullthrough and oil bottle and bore brush for cleaning, section kit was a canvas case with rod and jags, brushes and oil and the combination tool I spoke of. I still have several of the new Parker Hale rods and handfulls of brushes. I have one oil bottle left and pullthrough cloths but not much else, moved all of it a couple years back. I also have a few dozen pullthroughs...

Here's a link to a group that talks about the UK issue... SLR Cleaning Kit Tales from the Supply Depot

Here's a picture of the section kit we had in Canadaicon, two per section.

Hi Frank, as your L1A1 is freshly rebuilt, you probably won't really need the reamer, as you will no doubt clean her after every shoot properly, but it's nice to have.

I would just use a standard PH cleaning rod, pulled through from the chamber, sorry, teaching granny too suck eggs...

Standard tools, not to be without, butt removal tool and extractor remover.

Nice to have L1A1 spares, Hammer, hammer strut, Firing pin, extractor set, inner and outer return springs...

There's tons of discussion about FN cleaning kits and the variations, even pics in the FN section. If you use the search feature like I just did they all come up...

This is a carbon removing tool. Issued to Britishicon armourers. When your gas plugs starts to get difficult to turn. & more importantly, hard to get out of the gas block.
Only then, would you need to use this tool.

Be careful also how you use it! Do not lean it over to one side. & Push it HARD when turning! This will Remove METAL, as well as the offending Carbon!!........

What is your L1A1 Britishicon or Australianicon?

That will determine the 'correct' items to look for

One of the problems that can arise from having the gas regulator incorrectly set is 'hammering' of the gas plug in the gas block due to excessive gas pressure which could raise a small burr inside the gas block. The reamer was used to cut this burr out. A correctly set up rifle that was kept clean would never need the reamer. Most reamers are in very good condition because they were seldom used.
