    AR-9

I have built a couple of AR-9s during the past couple of years and have a question - Is there any way to keep the bolt/charging handle from falling out of the upper receiver when opened? I know, the first answer is don't open the receiver, but in California, we have to split the receivers to swap magazines and if I don't pay attention, the bolt/charging handle fall out. I don't have that problem with the gas operated rifles since the gas tube through the charging handle and in the bolt key prevent it from falling out. Thank you for any assistance and recommendations.

The Armalite AR-9 was a shotgun?

I assume you are referring to some variety of 9mm AR15 varient?

So an AR15 pattern AR 9? The charging handle has a latch, push the charging handle all on way in until it latches before you open the receiver.

There are plastic covers that snap on or use the takedown bosses with plastic pins to hold the bolt in a separated upper. I use them as i have a dedicated.22 upper that I swap out with a 300 blkout upper. Also have a second .45 pistol upper built with only one pistol lower.

I wish I could do that but in California, to reload the rifle, we have to split the receiver and that is when we usually drop a bolt out the back. I guess we will just have to live with it.

That sounds like a pita. I dated a gal from Eureka when I was in college. Glad we broke up and I came back to NC.
