    1909 Peruvian Bayonet

    I guess I've turned into a collector.
I got a 1909 Peruvianicon bayonet literally decades ago, maybe 50 years? I neighbor kid that collected military stuff sold it to me for 50 cents. Yeah, probably about what they're worth now. he said it was a Japaneseicon bayonet, but after I got to looking at it, saw 'Simson and Co' with Ruhr. Figured it was Germanicon, pre WW2 since no E/W designation. No handles on it. It pretty much followed me around since then.
The last couple of years, I've been picking up some US military bayonets and thought about researching my first one. That's when I discovered via the markings it was Peruvian.
    Anyway.
The condition isn't great, not really wanting to spend a bunch of money on it, but anybody have an idea where I might find some grips for it?
Also, on the guard, 2609 is stamped. Is that the serial number? I also see 867 stamped under the grip area.

    Thanks for any answers.
    Roger

I'm sure that reproduction grips are made for the Germanicon equivalent and they would fit this just as well. Check ebay periodically. Unless the grips are really bad, I wouldn't replace them. These actually are pretty valuable today as they are relatively rare.

Is the Peruvianicon crest visible on the back of the pommel?

    Yes, crest is visible.
No grips on it at all, that's why I'd like to pick some up.

I bought some repro grips on ebay a couple years back for $20 USD + S&H. Included fasteners. Ill-fitting but holding a place until I can find something better. I will post pictures later.

I have repro grips on a Germanicon bayonet. They are ill fitting, you would think they would be better than they are. Better than nothing however.

    Repair or modify grip panels.

Rip off the lower edges, graft on extension pieces, pin and glue, reshape to fit, dab of stain and BLOicon and Roberto's your tio!
