    Gong 98

    Hi.
I have purchased a Gong 98.aside from the fact I cant figure out what it shoots (8mm wont fit) a whole other issue to be resolved by casting. The immediate problem I have is I need to buy a bolt sleeve and safety. I cant find any gong type1 parts listed. Any suggestions of alternate models action parts I can use.

Assuming you have a Chinese Mauser 98 clone, first I've heard them called Gongs but it did come up in a search. It should be 8mm unless they rebarreled it. I've heard they converted some of their rifles to 7.62x39 but not sure they did this with the Mauser's.

It's possible German K98icon parts will work but quality control with the Chinese rifles was not as good so they may not.

Would love to see some photos. This is one that's missing from my collection.

Wikipedia says they were initially made in a special 6,8x57 Mauser. Quick bore measurement might help. If it is 6,8x57 it might be less common than expected.
