Thumbs up N0 1 MK III I traded for.......

Yesterday I traded my nephew a Charter Arms .38 Special and ammo & stuff for a No1 Mk III
Made at Enfield in 1915 it is a wire wrapped grenade launcher.

I should have taken pictures before I started cleaning it with Murphy's Oil Soap.

The whole thing looked like the No1 photo.....Pure black all over.....

It has started to clean up nicely with a bit of elbow grease and a scrubby.....

It had this info on the buttstock along with a rack number.....#5

The really funny thing is, he told me I gave this to him for Christmas 20 years ago.
Of which I have no memory.

He shot it once and remembered that it was oozing cosmolineicon when heated up from firing.

I like it as it matches another wire wrapped Enfield that I have that is the most accurate rifle of 12-15 No 1 Mk III's that I own.

Looks like a coating of preservative too, should come clean. Nice trade.
    Regards, Jim

Looks like it spent some time in the "dusty, spiteful and divided" parts.

Though I suppose that describes quite a few countries now.

Looks decidedly Indian to me: Metal markings, fore-end style, etc.

The numbers painted on the butt would indicate just WHY it ended up as a "Grenade Launching Only" piece of kit.

I guess there are not too many other kids on your block with something as storied.

The mysterious "GF" marking sometimes said to be "Gujerat Force(s)" or some such unlikely term.
