A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. It would take skills, perseverance and time to resurrect this old honey, if you could get it at the right price. I think that it is still a "glass half full" rifle, rather than a "glass half empty" proposition for somebody who really wants a .280 Ross Sporter, and is prepared to take it on as a project, as well as the ensuing ammunition issues.

Serial #15968, .280 Ross, 26" barrel with a good bore that has freckling and light pitting along its length. This rifle retains about 70-75% of the original blue finish with some mild freckling along the barrel, especially towards the muzzle, and gray fading and silvering on the high edges and projections. All markings remain crisp and fully legible, and the bolt is in excellent, properly assembled condition. All sights have been removed: the front side and band, rear barrel sight and band, as well as the adjustable aperture sight that was originally mounted on the receiver bridge platform. This platform now has two vacant drilled and tapped holes along its right side, two brass pins at its top left edge and an about 1/2" notch has been ground along its top left edge. The checkered, capped pistol-grip walnut stock with schnabel tip is in fair-good condition with a thin 1" crack running up from the rear of the trigger guard on the right side, and an about 3 1/2" crack mirroring it on the left side. Numerous small handling marks and small blemishes are also scattered about the wood. The checkering has moderate wear, and the sling swivel studs have been removed, but the hard rubber pistol-grip cap and original checkered steel buttplate are intact. This would make an excellent source of M-10 parts, or would make a fine project rifle in its own right. FFL or C&R
