Springfield Armory 1903.... strange bird, questions

Recently acquired a Springfield Armory 1903, serial number dates it at 1912 mfg. Really a strange bird.....it appears to have undergone a depot/arsenal rebuild and is in very good condition considering it's supposed age. Serial number 529..., 6 digits. The receiver is shiny parkerized not the dull anti shine, it has a dark dark parkerized or blued barrel that has SA 9-44 stamped on it near the muzzle. and here's the real kicker, the stock is worn with several scratches and minor gouges as would be expected for that age and has a stamped POD D cartouche inside a square box on the left side. Also just behind the trigger guard is a P in a circle and a another P alone behind that stamped in the stock. When disassembled the receiver shows no other stampings that I can find. New to forum, was directed her by GCAicon editor, a big thank you to any one who can give me any identifying info.

That would be odd... If you post pics we can have a look and help. If you need to post and can't manage...send them to me and I'll post them in this thread. See your PM.

    early 1903 rifle

Really would help to post some photos.

The POD D rebuild stamp was the Philippine Ordnance Depot stamp with the other D being the inspector. When the Japaneseicon invaded the POD was gone.

Stocks did circulate back and forth as the POD was in use since WW1 and they do turn-up but not common to findAttachment 118208
